NamRA drives eAR awareness

eAR awareness in session

The Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA) today, hosted the first in a series of nationwide Information Sharing Sessions on the Electronic Advance Ruling (eAR) system in Windhoek. The session marked the start of NamRA’s awareness campaign aimed at improving understanding and use of the new digital customs solution, officially launched on 7 November 2024.

The eAR solution is designed to simplify and speed up customs procedures by providing timely, accurate information on the tariff classification and origin of goods. The system enhances compliance and support trade by reducing delays, uncertainty and paperwork.

NamRA’s Manager for Customs Valuation and Classification, Stanley Gurirab said the eAR system was part of efforts to modernise Namibia’s trade processes. He encouraged clearing agents, traders and importers to use the eAR platform for faster and more reliable decisions.

Izan Engelbrecht, who represented a logistics firm at the session, welcomed the initiative, saying clearing agents often face delays and disputes over goods classification and that the eAR system will bring major relief.

Stakeholders from across the trade sector attended, including importers, exporters, clearing agents, freight forwarders and SMEs.

Other similar sessions will take place in Walvis Bay on 23 June 2025, Katima Mulilo on 30 June 2025 and at the Trans-Kalahari Border Post on 7 July 2025.
